Expanding our presence in South Carolina

Johnson Controls, Inc. has been a part of the South Carolina business community for many years. Through our facilities in Oconee County and Florence, we've had the great fortune to work with hundreds of local residents, and our success is due in large part to the strong work ethic and dedication of our employees.

As we continue to grow our business, we will call South Carolina, and Florence County, home for our newest facility. In 2009, we announced plans to grow our presence in the state by building a new battery recycling center in Florence – a facility that will represent a capital investment of more than $150 million and 250 local jobs.

We also continue to work with state and federal agencies to ensure our proposed facility conforms to all local, state and federal regulations. Currently, we are moving forward with construction plans and recruiting for key positions.

In August, United Way of Florence County and Johnson Controls announced the launch of Project H.O.P.E. The program addresses both the causes and the effects of unemployment in the area. With funding and support from the Johnson Controls Foundation, United Way of Florence County will drive the comprehensive effort, coordinating job training services and aiding in job placement.

On February 15, 2012, Project H.O.P.E. will host a Job & Resource Fair at the SiMT on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College. The event will enable attendees to meet employers from area businesses, speak with hiring officials about open positions, and submit your resume. Project H.O.P.E will also have representatives on hand to discuss the program and resources available.

The Florence Battery Recycling Center will begin operations in Summer 2012. Select hiring has begun for salaried personnel, focusing on engineering and key staff positions such as Controller, HR, and Purchasing. Currently, applications for hourly positions are being accepted. The first hourly employees are expected to start in the Spring of 2012. We will continue to make the community aware of opportunities during our hiring process and will have several meetings with area leaders and citizens to keep them updated on the process.
